Nintendo Intensifies Legal Action Against Content Creator Over Piracy Allegations
Dec-18-2024
Nintendo has been intensifying its efforts to combat the unauthorized use of its games and protect its intellectual property rights. Recently, the company escalated its legal actions against piracy, responding to various forms of infringement that threaten its brand.
Approximately a month ago, Nintendo initiated legal proceedings against a content creator known as EveryGameGuru, whose real name is Jesse Keighin. The lawsuit alleges that Keighin utilized several pirated and emulated Nintendo Switch titles during his video presentations, sometimes showcasing these games even before their official release, including the title Mario & Luigi: Brothership.
Despite multiple attempts, Nintendo has not yet succeeded in formally notifying Keighin about the lawsuit. Over the past month, there have been five unsuccessful efforts to deliver the legal documents to him, prompting Nintendo to explore the option of involving his family members for notification. This information comes from a revised lawsuit filed by Nintendo, which has been covered by numerous sources.
According to the updated legal documents, Keighin has publicly acknowledged his knowledge of the lawsuit through social media and has expressed his negative feelings towards Nintendo's actions. Furthermore, he has suggested that he might evade responsibility by declaring bankruptcy.
In relation to this ongoing case, the U.U.S. District Court located in the Colorado jurisdiction is set to determine whether to approve Nintendo's petition to serve the lawsuit to Keighin via his family members.
