Google Chat Introduces AI-Powered Summaries to Enhance Message Management

The introduction of innovative features in digital communication platforms is always exciting. Recently, a new functionality was added to Google Chat that aims to enhance user experience by providing AI-generated summaries of unread messages. This enhancement is part of the Gemini capabilities that have been integrated into Google Chat, allowing users to quickly catch up on conversations without the need to read each message in detail.

New features were launched on Monday within Google Chat, incorporating Gemini's capabilities. This addition enables the service to provide artificial intelligence (AI) summaries for unread discussions. The rollout is aimed at Workspace users who possess one of the Gemini add-ons. Importantly, this functionality will be accessible across all platforms, including Android, iOS, and the web client. This launch follows the earlier introduction of the AI-powered summarise function for Gmail.

The tech company elaborated on this new feature in a Workspace blog post. It is important to note that this will be a paid feature available exclusively to Google Workspace users who subscribe to Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium add-ons. While the feature is being gradually deployed, users are advised that the period for complete worldwide accessibility to all qualifying persons could extend to a maximum of 15 days.

The AI summary function is integrated into the main view of Google Chat. When a user accesses an unread conversation, they will notice a Summarise icon accompanied by the Gemini sparkle icon. By tapping this icon, users can generate a summary of the unread messages in a bullet-point format, which will open in a separate floating window. After reviewing the summary, users have the option to close the window and proceed with any required actions.

This feature includes support for all group conversations, spaces, or threads within the main view that hold unread messages. The tech company asserts that this functionality will help users prioritize the conversations that matter most without needing to painstakingly review each individual message.

For web access, users can simply hover over an unread conversation to see the summarise option appear automatically. Meanwhile, on Android and iOS devices, users can long-press an unread discussion to access this feature. End users can easily enable or disable the functionality via the Smart features & controls within Google products.
