Digital Chess Ascendant: Group Stage Battles Begin in Paris

The upcoming chess tournament at the international digital sports event has now reached the group stage. Following yesterday’s concluding play-in round, the roster of 16 competitors has been finalized for the main tournament at the Paris venue.

The final pair of contenders to surface from the… play-in phase were Wei Yi from China and Andrey Esipenko from Russia. Both have secured their positions in one of two groups to advance into a double-elimination knockout bracket until only eight contestants remain, with each group contributing four players.

The group battles are scheduled from August 12 to 13, after which the tournament will continue with a single-elimination playoff featuring the eight remaining players on August 14 and 15. Below are the opening matches organized by group:
