Borderlands 4 Roadmap Unveiled: Expanding Horizons with New DLCs and Next-Gen Features

This update highlights the expanded post-launch roadmap for Borderlands 4, which is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on September 12. Additional details have emerged confirming not only the official price and PC specifications, but also plans for a later release on the next-generation Switch.

Recent communications have revealed that the game’s post-launch phase will feature both premium and complimentary downloadable content. Two major content streams are slated for release over time. One is a series of premium Story Packs that promise new regions and narratives, and the other is a Vault Hunter Pack designed to add two more robust characters to the roster.

Key information has been shared regarding the planned updates:

  • The Story Packs will introduce a completely new area within Kairos, with an extended story, numerous side missions, and a host of fresh loot and cosmetics.
  • The additional Vault Hunters continue the tradition of introducing post-launch characters who have proven to be widely popular within the community.

In addition to these, the upcoming Bounty Packs will feature an entirely new zone complete with original missions and a signature boss encounter, plentiful new loot and cosmetics, a distinctive personalized Digirunner vehicle, and a Vault Card that presents unique challenges paired with exclusive rewards. The specifics of the Vault Card mechanics in Borderlands 4 remain under wraps, though they are expected to resemble the system from the previous installment.

Players will have the flexibility to obtain these new features individually upon their debut or as part of packaged offers. Available bundles include one that focuses solely on the Bounty Packs and a comprehensive edition that bundles Bounty, Story, and Vault Hunter Packs together.

Gearbox has assured fans that further details regarding the upcoming Story Packs and Bounty Packs will be shared as the launch of Borderlands 4 draws nearer. The game is also slated to receive multiple free updates post-launch, aimed at incorporating community feedback, fine-tuning game balance, and delivering sizable additional free content that has yet to be officially announced.
